Rum thief fined $300

Allison Edeavour was yesterday ordered to pay EC$300 by the court after he was caught stealing two 6 oz bottles of Sunset Very Strong Rum from Massy Stores at Arnos Vale last Friday.

When Edeavour appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, he pleaded guilty to stealing two 6 oz bottles of Sunset Very Strong Rum, valued at EC $17.55 on July 21, 2017.

Police say that Edeavour took the bottles and bought phone credit to make it seem as though he had made a purchase in the store.

However, a clerk saw what he was doing and alerted the police, who were right outside of the supermarket.

He was, in turn, fined $300 forthwith; in default, he will spend three months in prison.(AS)
