Grenadian remanded

A Grenadian national was on Monday remanded in police custody after being slapped with three immigration charges.

When Dwayne Sylvester appeared before magistrate Bertie Pompey at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court he pleaded guilty to entering the state by boat and disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer at Kingstown on June 11, 2017.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to entering the state by boat without a passport, while also being a prohibited immigrant and also to knowingly and willfully allowing himself to be landed as a prohibited immigrant on that same day and place.

When the question of bail arose, prosecutor Elgin Richards asked that Sylvester be remanded in custody. Richards told the court that Sylvester is Grenadian and if granted bail, he may flee the state.

Pompey remanded the Grenadian for one week “in first instance.”

He would reappear before the court on September 18, 2017.
