Duo charged with  possession of illegal firearm

Two men who were allegedly found with a firearm in a vehicle on the leeward side of the island last Monday night have been granted $12,000 bail each.

Junior Phillips, of Block 2000, and Jeraudi Cromwell, of Old Montrose, are charged that on May 8, 2017, they had in their possession one 9mm Ruger Pistol with the serial number 315-37329 without a licence.

They are also charged that on that same day and place they had nine rounds of 9mm ammunition without a licence.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche did not objection to bail, but asked for sufficiency of surety and that they are required to report to police at least once per week.

They are to report to the Central Police Station every Monday and Thursday and were also made to surrender all travel documents.

Stop notices have been placed at all ports of exit and entry and the duo will need the expressed permission of the court to leave the state.

When they appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, Phillips had no legal representation, while defence lawyer Kay Bacchus-Baptiste represented Cromwell.

They are expected to return to court on May 22, 2017 for trial. (AS)
