Farmer granted $50,000 bail for cannabis possession

A hefty bail sum has been set for an Owia Farmer who was found with over 100 pounds of cannabis on Tuesday at the Duvale Mountains.

When Leroy Nanton, 35, pleaded not guilty to having 49,441 grams of cannabis with intent to supply to another on Wednesday at the Serious Offences Court, his bail was set in the sum of $50,000 with one surety.

At first, Nanton pondered on what his plea should be, but after looking at the quantity of drugs exhibited on the floor of the court room, he said the drugs did not belong to him.

“It’s not mine,” he told the court, while shaking his head repeatedly.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche made no objection to his bail.

Nanton is, however, required to report to the Owia Police Station every Monday and Thursday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

He will reappear before the court on April 28, 2017. (AS)
