Campden Park man found with illegal gun sentenced to six years

Campden Park man found with illegal gun sentenced to six years

A 23-year-old Campden Park man is expected spend the next five years behind bars, after he pleaded guilty to having an illegal firearm in his possession.

Kenroy Spencer and Nabilia Gordon first appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, jointly charged that on January 13, 2017 at Campden Park, they had a firearm in their possession without a licence.

They were further charged that on that same date and place, they had 61 grams of cannabis in their possession.

Spencer pleaded guilty to both charges, while Gordon entered a not guilty plea.

After remanding both Campden Park residents for 24 hours, the Crown decided to withdraw the charges against Gordon.

On Friday, January 13, 2017, around 8:30 a.m., a party of police officers executed a search warrant on Spencer’s home.

Officers asked Spencer if he had anything to declare. He answered yes and handed over some cannabis. Officers continued their search of the premises and found a black and red mask, along with a pair of gloves which he said he found outside.

This seemed to have prompted officers to take Spencer outside of the house, where they found the firearm near the fence.

The Campden Park man was arrested and charged for both the firearm and the drugs.

A three-month prison term was also handed down to Spencer, as it relates to the 61 grams of cannabis.

Spencer’s jail sentence came one day before police officers found one sub-machine gun, one Glock 40 pistol, one 38 revolver, one round of AK ammunition, 14 rounds of Glock 40 ammunition and 45 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, as well as two ski masks in Lowmans Leeward.

“These masks are an issue of concern for us. All law enforcement authorities in St Vincent are aware of the implications and once they are discovered, action would be taken to remove them from wherever they are,” said Commissioner of Police Renold Hadaway in a press conference on Wednesday.

Hadaway also assured the public that the police force is doing all in within its power to reduce the number of gun related crimes affecting the country. (AS)
