Campden Park woman slapped with four-month prison term

A four-month prison term is the price being paid by a 21-year-old Campden Park woman who passed prohibited substances to her boyfriend while he was in police custody.

Yesterday, Lemisha Paris seemed nonchalant as she and her boyfriend left the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court in police custody.

A few minutes earlier, Paris had pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle 10 cigarettes and one “bomb” of marijuana to Lara Carter at the Central Police Station on Saturday, January 7, 2017.

Police say that when Paris visited Carter, who was at the station facing six charges, she brought him food in a Styrofoam container. However, during a routine examination of the food, police found the cigarettes and marijuana in a plastic bag in the food.

She admitted to the offence when cautioned by police.

Carter, on the other hand, was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to all six charges brought against him.

He is charged that on January 5, 2017, he stole one cellular phone valued EC$200, the property of Bennisha Baptiste of Ottley Hall. He is also charged that on January 6, 2017, he assaulted Baptiste, causing actual bodily harm. Carter also allegedly assaulted Baptiste with intent, by pointing a gun at her on January 6, 2017.

Additionally, he faces three counts of damage to property owned by Baptiste, reportedly committed on November 26, 2016.

Carter, who expressed his displeasure at a small crowd that spewed insults at him as he left the court, will return to court on Monday, January 16, 2017 for bail review.

The trial for his matter would commence on March 6, 2017. (AS)
