Friendly Society president granted bail in sum of $90,000

Two persons on January 3 signed bail for Morris Prescott, president of the Buccament Wise and Prudent Friendly Society.

Prescott, who appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court last week Friday, gained much public attention after he admitted at a meeting of the Society on December 23 to misappropriating EC$83,000 of the Society’s money.

When he appeared before the court, he pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of theft and was given bail in the sum of $90,000, with two sureties.

Prescott, who is also a teacher and a member of the cadet corps, is to report to the Vermont Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

He was ordered to surrender all travel documents and is not allowed to leave the state without the express consent of the court.

Stop orders have been placed at all ports of exit and entry and the Vermont man is expected to reappear before the court on March 17, 2017. (AS)
