Jeevan Thambithuran and Thuvarakan Mareenthivan appeared before the court on Wednesday and were charged with failure to leave the country on or before the time which was permitted to them.

While in court, the defendants had to be provided with an interpreter, because of their limited understanding of the English language.

According to the facts of the case, the men entered St Vincent and the Grenadines on March 28, 2015 at the ET Joshua Airport and failed to seek an extension of their visa or to leave the state.

During the execution of a search warrant at the Macedonia Rock Hotel at Arnos Vale, the men were found and taken into custody.

While in custody, police inquired into whether Thambithuran and Mareenthivan had requested an extension of their visas, but no application was found.

The men were questioned and admitted fault on their part.

Thambithuran and Mareenthivan were also ordered to pay a fine of $500 each, to be paid forthwith or face three months imprisonment. (CM)
