Junior Richards, 23, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, while Rapid Response Unit (RRU) officers were conducting mobile patrol duties on the Diamond public road.

Police say that they saw Richards smoking a marijuana cigarette, which prompted a search of his person. They then discovered a .380 semi-automatic pistol, serial number BEH24444 in Richards’ waist, along with a magazine and one live round.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias sentenced Richards to five years in prison.

Richards’ imprisonment comes amidst a recent upsurge in gun-related crimes. (AS)
