Man caught with gun registered to Grenadian

A man caught in Kingstown with a firearm registered in Grenada to a Grenadian resident was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) for his own safekeeping, after he told police that his life is in danger and he has been on the run since 2007.{{more}}

Ricardo McFee appeared before the Serious Offences Court yesterday, charged with possession of a .380 Glock pistol without a licence and 50 rounds of .380 ammunition, also without a licence.

McFee was caught on May 4 and when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias yesterday, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche objected to his bail, informing the court that the firearm in question is registered to someone living in Grenada and that there is a joint investigation involving Vincentian and Grenadian detectives.

“We’re of the view that should bail be granted to the defendant, it can hinder the progress of the investigation,” said Delpesche, who also revealed that McFee informed them that his life has been in danger since 2007.

The senior prosecutor told the court that, in his opinion, McFee should be kept in police custody for his own safety and since McFee had indicated that he is on the run, the law has measures in place to keep him safe.

Delpesche also informed the court that they expect to have an update on the case in seven days.

In light of this, chief magistrate Browne-Matthias remanded McFee, stating that she expects a report on the case on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. (AS)
