When Alves appeared before the Serious Offences Court, he pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs with intent to supply to another.

According to police, around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, PC 195 Snagg and PC 921 Williams were on duty at the wharf when they saw Alves heading towards the terminal building.

The officers signalled Alves to stop to which he replied, “I am coming back”. The officers then went in pursuit of Snagg and caught up with him at the front of the terminal building, heading to the bathroom.

Alves turned back and went to the back of the building where he was apprehended. While there, Snagg made checks in the bathroom and found two brown, taped packages. The packages were cut open and Alves was reported saying, “Officer ah weed, you can’t see ah weed”.

The offense of possession of a controlled drug was pointed out to him and he was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where the drugs were weighed in his presence.

When asked why he shouldn’t go to jail by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias, he said it was his first time committing the offense and that he can pay a little money and given some time to pay the balance.

Browne-Matthias ordered that he pay $1,500 forthwith and the balance of $3,500 to be paid by July 29, this year. In default he faces nine months imprisonment.
