The Richland Park resident, on Thursday, October 22, was acquitted of a murder charge in a Preliminary Inquiry at the Serious Offences Court, following a no-case submission made by her counsel Kay Bacchus-Browne.

The no-case submission was upheld by chief magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias.

However, her common-law husband, Wilfred Davis, 54, a farmer of Richland Park, was committed to stand trial in the High Court on a count of manslaughter.

The couple had been jointly charged with the May 28, 2015 murder of Edwin Jack, 74, a farmer of Richland Park.

According to reports, the deceased and his nephew Davis were involved in an altercation, which resulted in the deceased sustaining a chop wound to his neck. He subsequently died.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche said he agreed with the no-case submission, based on how the evidence came out in court.

Davis will appear before a judge and jury at the next practical sitting of the Assizes.(KW)
