Five to stand trial for approx 2,000 pounds of marijuana

Five Vincentian nationals, caught during a drug bust in North Leeward last year, when police confiscated approximately 2,000 pounds of marijuana, will soon stand before the High Court.{{more}}

This was the ruling of Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias yesterday at the Serious Offences Court.

On February 20, 2014, Rajiv Deshong, Denzil Sam, Ezekiel Robin, Daniel Baptiste and Calvert Prince were found in possession of 907,546 grams of the controlled drug while travelling by speedboat along the North Leeward Coast.

They were apprehended by officers of the Coastguard Service and the Narcotics Unit, who were on a joint expedition.

However, Godrey Cumberbatch, who was part of the group of men apprehended, was shot and killed one week before their court appearance, scheduled for June 19 last year.

Cumberbatch would have made it six men to appear before the High Court.
