The 20-year-old appeared before magistrate Carla James at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, August 31, and pleaded guilty to stealing four pairs of water boots, two wheel barrows, shovels, rakes and a pickaxe valued at $1,460.97, between August 22 and 27, 2015.

According to the evidence presented, Errol Hazel — an employee of Coreas Hazel’s Inc — secured the building on August 22 at about 4 p.m., then left.

When he returned on August 27, he was given certain information by the security guard, which resulted in him checking footage from the surveillance cameras.

This prompted an investigation, which subsequently led to the arrest of Wilson.

Prosecutor Sergeant Elgin Richards told the court that the defendant was at the time helping with clean-up efforts on the building, which was ravaged by a fire on August 16.

Richards further told the court that Wilson found a key, which he used to gain access to the burnt-out building.

Some of the stolen items were recovered.

The court also heard that since 2009, Wilson has racked up 16 convictions — 11 of a similar nature. (KW)
