Police remain tight-lipped as to why a charge of driving without a licence, which had been brought against pastor Errol Daniel was withdrawn at the Magistrate’s Court last week.

When contacted yesterday, station sergeant Junior Nero of the traffic department was reluctant to state the reason why the charge was withdrawn.{{more}}

He, however, directed us to a junior officer of the traffic branch, who he said would give the details of the charge. However, that officer could only supply the nature of the alleged offence.

The officer also could not provide the date and place of the alleged offence, as the file containing such information had already been put away.

Daniel, senior pastor of the Streams of Power churches, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 19.

At that time, prosecutor station sergeant Junior Nero indicated to the court that he was not proceeding with the matter against Daniel.

Daniel was then told he was free to leave the court.

When contacted, deputy commissioner Reynold Hadaway said he was aware of the matter, but could not speak much on it.

“As a matter of fact, I just called the officer responsible for traffic to my office here now. So, he would give me an update on that matter,” Hadaway told SEARCHLIGHT.

Three months ago, police were also tight-lipped as to why four charges relating to traffic offences which had been brought against radio personality Dwight “Bing” Joseph were withdrawn.

However, one month later, on July 1, Joseph pleaded guilty to the charges after they were reinstated. He was fined a total of $1,850 and disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for three months.

Joseph, co-owner of Boom 106.9 radio station and co-host of the ‘OMG’ radio show, was charged with driving without a permit, licence and insurance and driving without a seat belt.(KW)
