Thief says he was given ‘job’ to steal solar panels

Kingstown resident, Alwin “Ziggy” Williams will spend the next six months in prison, after pleading guilty to the theft of three solar panels, valued at US$2,400.{{more}}

The 43-year-old man pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before magistrate Carla James.

According to the facts, Josiah Lewis, 65, businessman, residing in the USA, owns a home in Queen’s Drive and appointed someone caretaker of the house in his absence.

On April 14, 2014, at about 11 a.m, the caretaker secured the house and went away. Upon his return on May 2, 2014, checks were made and he noticed that the solar panels were missing.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations led to Williams.

Two of the panels were recovered.

In court, Williams explained that he was given the job by someone to move the panels.

“I didn’t just go there just like that,” he said.

Williams has several previous convictions of a similar nature, with his most recent dating back to 2013.(KW)
