‘Nose’ cleared of criminal charges

Journalist Duggie “Nose” Joseph has been cleared of criminal charges which had been brought against him.

On Monday, at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, prosecutor 423 Elgin Richards informed the court that he would not be offering any evidence in the matter. Joseph,{{more}} the assistant editor at The News newspaper, was charged with criminal assault of auxiliary police officer Ricaldo Durrant, on April 10, 2015.

When he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on April 13, Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, the prosecutor said he would not have been able to make out a case against Joseph.

“When I looked and read the file, I believe I wouldn’t have been able to secure a conviction,” Richards said.

Richards explained that when prosecuting, one must look at the evidential and public test. “When I looked at those tests, I came to the conclusion that I wouldn’t proceed,” Richards further said.
