Deshawn Slater, a resident of Green Hill, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias.

According to the facts, police were on patrol in Green Hill when Slater was seen walking on the public road.

The officers approached him and asked for a search on his person and a nylon sack he was carrying.

A search of the sack revealed the illegal firearm.

When questioned about the firearm, Slater told officers he found the weapon in a field while digging for dasheen.

In court, Slater maintained the same story and told the Chief Magistrate that he was going to turn over the weapon to the police when he was caught.(KW)
