Longer wait for Long Wall resident before start of PI

Long Wall resident Colin David will have to wait longer for the Preliminary Inquiry into the robbery and attempted murder charges he faces to be heard.{{more}}

When he appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, February 4, senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche informed the court that investigator, Station Sergeant Hezron Ballantyne is on leave, following a tragedy in his family. Ballantyne’s daughter, Simonique Ballantyne, 13, is still missing at sea and presumed dead, after the omnibus, in which she was a passenger, ran off the road and plunged into the sea at Rock Gutter, on January 12.

David is charged with the attempted murder of Police Constable 843 Julanie Jack, and for being armed with a gun, robbing Cleopatra Wilson, a postal corporation worker of EC$102,000, on June 13, 2013.

Reports are that at about 11 a.m. on the day in question, a man snatched a deposit bag containing over $100,000 from a female employee of the postal corporation, who was returning from the bank.

Jack was in the vicinity at the time and during his attempt to apprehend the man, he was shot twice.

Former national footballer Dwayne Sandy had been named as a suspect in that matter. However, after being arrested twice, Sandy was released at about 4:50 a.m. on June 22, 2014, without being charged.

David is being represented by lawyers Michaela Ambrose and Israel Bruce.(KW)
