Teenager to stand trial for attempted murder of Trinidadian

At the next practical sitting of the High Court’s Criminal Assizes, Recollson Quashie will go before a judge and jury to answer a charge of attempted murder.{{more}}

At the conclusion of a Preliminary Inquiry at the Serious Offences Court yesterday, Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias found there was sufficient evidence for the 18-year-old Bequia resident to stand trial at the High Court.

He is charged with the attempted murder of of 93-year-old Trinidadian Robert “Bobby” Montano, between 9:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 and 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Gingerbread Apartments, Bequia.

Quashie also stands accused of aggravated burglary.

The prosecution, led by senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche, called five witnesses to testify in the matter.

Montano was severely beaten about his body while in his hotel room and had to be rushed back to his homeland for medical attention.

The retired businessman suffered a severe head injury, broken wrist, swollen left hand, damaged optic nerve in the left eye and blood clots on his brain.

He is currently confined to a wheelchair.

Quashie was unrepresented in the matter.(KW)
