The 27-year-old man was not allowed to plead to the charge.

He is charged with the attempted murder of Nicholas Sutherland, 51, businessman of Diamond, on January 17, 2015.

In objecting to Young’s bail, senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche told the court that Sutherland is still warded at the Male Surgical ward of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Delpesche added that the lead of the bullet is still lodged in Sutherland’s stomach, which he said doctors are still attempting to remove.

The prosecutor requested a week’s adjournment, in which time he would have an update on the victim’s medical condition.

It is alleged that at approximately 11 p.m., Sutherland was shot through the glass pane of his door by an unknown assailant.

Young is being represented by attorney Israel Bruce.(KW)
