Alvin Spencer, 58, a resident of Pembroke and a security officer of the Postal Corporation, is charged with assaulting Police Constable Elron

Lewis, 27, and punching him on the left side of his face, causing actual bodily harm. He is also charged with resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that on May 23, 2014, while the police officer was on duty, standing close to the door of the post office, Spencer slammed the door in his face. It is further alleged that when the police officer told Spencer he was going to arrest him, the security guard punched him.

The police officer is said to have attempted to hold on to Spencer, which resulted in both men tussling with each other and drawing their weapons.

Spencer is currently on station bail. (KW)
