100 matters to be tackled as Criminal Assizes commence

The first sitting of the Criminal Assizes for the new law term will commence today, at the High Court in Kingstown.{{more}}

The prosecution will have its hands full when they attempt to tackle 100 matters, ranging from murder, rape, unlawful sexual intercourse to robbery, among others.

Her Ladyship Esco Henry will preside over the Criminal Assizes, in the absence of resident High Court judge Frederick Bruce-Lyle who is currently on vacation.

Henry, a national of Montserrat, was recently assigned here in an acting capacity from May 2 to July 31, 2014. She was one of two judges brought here to preside over the last sitting of the assizes in May.

Justice Rajiv Persad, attorney at law, acted as High Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court from May 9 to July 31, 2014.
