Browne-Matthias was sworn in as Chief Magistrate on Monday this week, filling the position left vacant in April this year by former Chief Magistrate Sonya Young, who left to take up an appointment as a judge in Belize.

The new chief magistrate, a former acting president of the Family Court, took her seat in the Serious Offenses Court, located on the opposite end of the building housing the magistrate’s court where she had been stationed first in an acting capacity, since February 2013.

Meanwhile, the position left vacant by Browne-Matthias will be filled by Carla James, who will take on the role of magistrate in a temporary capacity.

Both James and Browne-Matthias were present at the Serious Offences court on Wednesday, where they were congratulated on their new engagements by members of the constabulary and lawyer Bayliss Frederick, who were in court.

Her Ladyship Pearletta Lanns has been recently appointed in an acting capacity, to preside as a judge at the High Court. (JJ)
