John appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to stealing the phone on April 3.

According to the facts read out in court, at about 1:40 p.m., John entered the store and headed to the electronic department, where the cellular phones are located.

The phones are attached to a device that, if removed, will trigger an alarm.

However, the Court was told that John took the phone from the device, leaving the back that covers the phone attached to the device, causing the alarm not to trigger.

It was not until the following day, while the surveillance footage was being reviewed, John was seen in the act.

Police went to his home to execute a search warrant and met the phone there.

Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias bonded John in the sum of $1,500 and if breached, he will have to pay that money forthwith or go to prison for six months.

The phone has since been returned.
