“Ah chow chow me been going mek. Yo’ does cut up de mango and put salt and pepper fo’ mek it,” a scruffy looking Barker told Chief Magistrate Sonya Young at the Serious Offences Court on Friday, when he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing the mangoes from the property of Keith King of Frenches.

Barker was given a one-month custodial sentence, suspended for one year.

The Court heard that at about 4 p.m. on April 3, King was at work when he received a telephone call.

As a result of that call, he went home and met Barker in the tree, which is situated at the back of his yard.

Barker, who was told to descend the tree, was caught with a white plastic bag with the fruits.

The matter was reported and Barker was arrested.

Under caution, he replied, “Officer, me tek dem fo mek chow chow fo me eat now.”

All of Barker’s previous convictions are in relation to theft and burglary.

He told the Court he was not going to sell the fruits.
