Pregnant 19-year-old mother of two fined for drug possession
A 19-year-old unemployed mother of two, who is pregnant with her third child, was earlier this week made to pay a $200 fine for drug possession.{{more}}
Ashleen Williams, of Chapmans, Georgetown, appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to possession of 158 grams of cannabis.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young fined the pregnant woman $200 to be paid forthwith or spend two weeks in prison.
The court heard that on October 21, at about 3:50 p.m., Police Constable 425 Searles was among a party of Rapid Response Unit personnel, who went to the home and premises of Denniston Ballanytne to carry out a search in respect of another matter.
During the search conducted on a latrine, a black plastic bag was found, for which Williams claimed ownership.
Before handing down sentence, the Magistrate told Williams she was of the opinion that three children is enough.
âI canât tell you how to live your life. But at 19, I think three is enough for you,â Young said.
Williams paid the fine immediately. (KW)
