Taxi operator slapped with seven counts of deception

A 65-year-old taxi operator of Lodge Village was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $50,000, after he was slapped with seven charges of deception.{{more}}

Walcott “Roachie” Haywood was not allowed to plea to the charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Sonya Young at the Serious Offences Court.

Haywood is charged that between May 3 and June 27, 2013, he dishonestly obtained EC$72,000 and US$3,332, the property of Marilyn Duke, a businesswoman of Tobago.

The Chief Magistrate ordered Haywood to report to the Central Police Station on Mondays and to surrender his travel documents.

The matter is adjourned to February 27, 2014 and will see six prosecution witnesses testifying in the matter.

Queen’s Counsel Bertram Commissiong appeared on Haywood’s behalf.(KW)
