Rockies resident gets year in jail for breaking, entering
Rockies resident Levi Roberts was on Tuesday sentenced to one yearâs imprisonment for breaking and entering the offices of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) at Murrayâs Road.{{more}}
Roberts pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court.
The facts in the matter are that at 3 a.m. on Monday, September 9, virtual complainant Lavelle Glasgow, who is employed with the ULP as a driver, was attempting to enter the washroom of the building, when he realised the the door was locked from the inside.
Realising someone was in the washroom, Glasgow retreated and went to the front door.
Roberts emerged from the washroom, and when Glasgow asked him what he was doing there, Roberts did not answer and went back inside the washroom.
Glasgow then shouted, âthief, thiefâ and subsequently called the police, who, on their arrival, met Roberts in the building.
In giving an explanation, Roberts told the court he went into the building to sleep.
âI didnât even know I was in the toilet. When I woke up, I didnât know a man was there,â Roberts said.
He said he entered the building by climbing through a window. He claimed it was the first time he had gone to the building.(KW)
