Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias on Tuesday convicted Franklyn at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.

According to the facts of the matter, the incident occurred on August 31, 2013 at around 11:15 a.m.

The court heard after the couple ended their relationship, Delicia moved out of the house in which she was living with Franklyn, and went to live with her sister.

Franklyn went to Delicia’s sister’s home, where he met Delicia and her sister in the porch. He told Delicia that he wanted back some of the items that she had removed from his place.

An argument ensued, following which Franklyn took a cutlass from his waist and began chopping Delicia about her body. Delicia’s sister also sustained injuries.

Franklyn was also charged with wounding Delicia’s sister. However, that matter has been adjourned.

The magistrate, in her sentencing, said she had to send a message to men who attack women with cutlasses.

Franklyn had previous convictions of a similar nature. (KW)
