Prisoners appear in court charged with murder and wounding
There was standing room only at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court yesterday, with several prisoners appearing on charges of murder, wounding, assault and controlled drugs.{{more}}
As early as 8:45 a.m., curious onlookers gathered on the precincts of the courthouse to catch a view of persons being carried into the court, charged with various crimes.
By 9 a.m., others who had matters before the court were denied entry because of the number of prisoners who were occupying most of the seats in the courtroom.
Some of the prisoners in the courtroom became irate and even complained about the length of time they had to wait for their matters to be called.
One frustrated prisoner, who had to be repeatedly told to behave himself, said âAll yo think is pappy show man dey pon. All yo bringing me around here all the time and my case ainât calling…,â he said.
Even when Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias stood up to leave the courtroom, the prisoner refused to stand after being told to do so repeatedly.
He was subsequently placed in handcuffs and taken from the courtroom.(KW)
