Former Miss Heritage to answer charges of assault on Friday

Former Miss Heritage Jonique Chance will return to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, to answer charges of assault.{{more}}

The matter was called for hearing yesterday at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias; however, Chance’s lawyer Jomo Thomas said he was not ready to proceed, because he had not been presented with all the witness statements.

Lauricia Williams was the only virtual complainant who showed up in court yesterday.

Magistrate Browne-Matthias made an order for the other virtual complainant, Samantha Lavia, to come to court on Friday. She also made an order for the prosecution to make full disclosure of the witness statements to the defence.

It is alleged that on Thursday, February 28, 2013, in the area of the Mahogany Bar at Richmond Hill, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Chance assaulted eight students by throwing an unknown substance on them, resulting in minor burns to their skin.

On March 4, Chance was slapped with eight charges of assault; however, four of the students: Lorenzo Williams, Brezanne DaSilva, Ronna Holder and Trishanna Ross, decided not to proceed with the matter.

It is still unclear how two other virtual complainants, Ayeika Samuel and Brenni Alexander, will proceed with the case against Chance.(CA)
