Man held with drugs at airport

St Maarten national Gordon Paynes is to return to the Serious Offences Court on September 18, on drug possession charges.{{more}}

Paynes appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to possession of 13,166 grams of cannabis at the E.T. Joshua Airport on June 12.

He was also charged with attempting to export the drug.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

An officer from the Narcotics Unit of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force told the court that Paynes, whose mother is from St Vincent, has been living in Georgetown for the past year and a half.

He was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 and ordered to report to the Georgetown police station on Mondays.

Paynes was also asked to surrender his travel documents.(KW)
