Client’s statement was taken under duress – Attorney

Shanique Hooper’s attorney Carlos James says a caution statement taken from his client was done under duress.{{more}}

James, on Monday, stated his objection to a statement which was taken from Hooper by investigating officer Malcolm Alexander, being admitted into evidence.

Hooper is currently on trial at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of theft of money from a lotto machine at Lady J Giftorium and Snackette.

It is alleged that she stole money on various occasions between September 2010 and July 2011.

The matter was adjourned to August 5 for continuation.

Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias presides.
