Man caught with marijuana asks police officer to shoot him

58-year-old year Franklyn Warner is of the view that he is too old to go to prison. He therefore told a police officer to place a gun in his mouth and shoot him.{{more}}

However, the officer did not follow through on Warner’s request, which was made after the Lowman’s Hill mechanic was found with 12,712 grams of cannabis in his possession at the Lowmans mountain on January 13, 2012.

At the Serious Offences Court yesterday, Warner pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $15,000. He was ordered to pay $7,000 forthwith and the remainder in six months or he will go to prison for two years.

The court heard that police officers from the Rapid Response Unit were patrolling the Lowmans mountain when they saw Warner on a marijuana plantation cutting marijuana.

The man then went to a nearby shed and hung the weed from the roof.

He was then approached by the officers and arrested.

Asked if he really told the police officer to shoot him, Warner told the court yes.

His attorney Jomo Thomas asked the court not to impose a custodial sentence on his client, but rather have him pay a financial penalty.

Thomas said, according to his instructions, his client has already raised $7,000 to pay a fine.(KW)
