Ranson Jack pleaded guilty at the Serious Offences Court to possession of 6,860 grams of cannabis and cultivation of 50 cannabis plants on February 2, 2012 at the Penniston mountains.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young fined Jack $7,000 for the possession of 6,860 grams of the drug. He was given three months in which to pay, or go to prison for two years.

On the cultivation charge, Jack was fined $3,000 in one month or spend one year in prison. He was ordered to pay $2,500 forthwith.

The court heard that police officers were on mobile patrol in the Penniston mountains when they came upon a marijuana field and met Jack with the illegal drug.(KW)
