Five Guyanese plead guilty to criminal charges, await their fate

Five of the seven Guyanese who were arrested here on September 30, 2012, will be sentenced on January 16, after pleading guilty to a criminal charge.{{more}}

The five: Rizwan Mohammed Meerza, 35, bodywork man; Kevin Orindi McLennan, 29, computer technician; Aslam Mohammed Wayum, 47, welder fabricator; Devindra Singh, 33 technician and lone female, Savitrie Sookraj, 34, acting manager, will sentenced for having in their possession two red handled pliers, one X-ray paper, one extension cord, and other equipment for use in the course of burglary.

The non-nationals had just arrived in St Vincent when they were arrested at the E.T. Joshua Airport around 11 a.m.

Two of the matters, including conspiring with each other to commit the offence of burglary and having in their possession, an implement, to wit, two red handled pliers, one x-ray paper, one extension cord and other equipment which to their knowledge have been specially designed or adapted for making of an instrument which is false and that they shall use the said instrument to induce someone to accept it as genuine and by reason of so accepting it to do some act to another person, were withdrawn by the prosecution.

All charges were dropped against the two other Guyanese, namely Surendar Sookdeo and Gangadai Budhram, 54, hotel manager.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young, instructed the defense, consisting of counsel Kay Bacchus-Browne and Grant Connell, to file written submissions to court by today, following which she will deliver her sentence.(KW)
