Lowmans Hill man placed on six months bond for theft of television
Only four days into the new year and Lowmans Hill resident Jomo Williams has already found himself on the wrong side of the law.{{more}}
Williams appeared at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to having a 14-inch, flat screen television in his possession, reasonably suspected of being stolen.
As a result, Senior Magistrate Donald Browne placed him on a $2,500 bond for six months. In breach, Williams will go to jail for six months.
The court heard that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on December 30 at Old Montrose, members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) were on mobile patrol when they saw Williams walking with a big plastic bag.
Officers stopped him and upon searching the bag, the television set was found.
In a police statement, Williams said he swapped three pounds of marijuana with a man for the television.
In court, Williams explained that he was planning to buy a television, but stated that he was still paying for a radio.
âDe fella say he have ah TV swapping and ah say well since ah canât get the TV, ah go swap it,â Williams said.(KW)
