Williams appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to having a 14-inch, flat screen television in his possession, reasonably suspected of being stolen.

As a result, Senior Magistrate Donald Browne placed him on a $2,500 bond for six months. In breach, Williams will go to jail for six months.

The court heard that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on December 30 at Old Montrose, members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) were on mobile patrol when they saw Williams walking with a big plastic bag.

Officers stopped him and upon searching the bag, the television set was found.

In a police statement, Williams said he swapped three pounds of marijuana with a man for the television.

In court, Williams explained that he was planning to buy a television, but stated that he was still paying for a radio.

“De fella say he have ah TV swapping and ah say well since ah can’t get the TV, ah go swap it,” Williams said.(KW)
