Prosecution drops charges against Layou men

Layou residents Matthew Quashie and Andrew Harry on Monday had two criminal charges discontinued against them in the High Court.{{more}}

When the matter was called up for hearing, crown counsel Kareem Nelson told the court that the prosecution was not proceeding with the matter.

The men were charged with aggravated burglary, possession of firearm or imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence on March 15, 2011 at Layou.

SEARCHLIGHT was reliably informed that the complainant in the matter, Vilroy Jack, has since left the jurisdiction.

The accused men were also absent from court. And SEARCHLIGHT understands that one of them is in another country.

They were accused of entering Jack’s house as trespassers and stole EC$19.

During the preliminary inquiry at the Serious Offences Court, Jack told the court that he was awakened by a noise on his door in the wee hours of the morning.

As he got off his bed to investigate, two men whom he named as “Deportee” and “Macka” accosted him.

He said one of the men stuck a gun in his side, cranked it and demanded money. (KW)
