Bajan Coastguard officers charged in connection with death of Vincy man

Three members of the Barbados Coastguard have been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of Percival Louie, a 47-year-old Vincentian from Chateaubelair.{{more}}

Corey Andre Broome, 31, of Upper Black Rock, St Michael, Romero Alexander DaCosta Gaskin, 21, of 3rd Avenue, Inch Cape Terrace, Wellhouse, St Philip and Shem Jonathan Chapman, 21, of 3rd Avenue, Alleyne’s Land, Bush Hall, St Michael appeared at the District A Magistrate’s Court in Bridgetown, Monday.

They were not required to plead to the charge of unlawfully killing Louie within the territorial waters of Barbados, off the coast of St James, on April 22, 2010.

Louie died of gunshot injuries.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Eustace Ifill did not object to bail for the three accused, but asked that they be released with strict conditions.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick then confiscated the passports of the accused and released each on $50,000 bail, with two sureties in the sum of $25,000 each.

The accused, who were represented by attorney Rita Evans, will reappear in court on October 31.
