G’town man gets two years for gun possession
Colin Blake, labourer of Georgetown, will spend the next two years behind bars for handling an illegal firearm.{{more}}
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young handed down the sentence on Tuesday, at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown.
The court heard that on August 21, Blake was arrested along the Dickson public road for having in his possession a firearm without a licence.
Chief Magistrate Young asked the defendant to tell her why she should not send him to prison.
Inclusive of the most recent, the firearm charge, Blake had 16 convictions.
âIt seems as if you started off as a thief man, moved to being in possession of an offensive weapon and now a firearm,â the chief magistrate told the defendant.
Blake, however, asked to be put on a bond to which the magistrate responded that she usually places teenagers on bonds.
The magistrate further defended her decision, based on the 15 previous convictions. (DD)
