Sergeant on murder charge

Fairbain Pasture resident, Cardon Sergeant, has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, charged with the murder of Elvis Hoyte, 52, of the same address.{{more}}

Sergeant appeared at the Serious Offences Court yesterday and was not allowed to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Reports are that on May 19, 2012, Sergeant, 56, was playing a game of Dominoes when an argument broke out between him and Hoyte. It is alleged that Sergeant took up a rock and struck the deceased on the head.

Initially, Sergeant was charged with wounding; that charge was later upgraded to attempted murder. However, Hoyte succumbed to his injuries earlier this week at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and the murder charge was brought against Sergeant.

The matter has been adjourned for Preliminary Inquiry on August 31, 2012, when the prosecution will call eight witnesses to testify.
