First sitting of the High Court Criminal Assizes – January 24

The first sitting of the High Court’s Criminal Assizes for the year commenced on Tuesday, January 24, with 72 matters down for trial.{{more}}

The Assizes, which will be held in two courts simultaneously, will be presided over by Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle and Justice Wesley James.

The prosecution will have a full plate as 26 murder trials are scheduled to be heard along with 10 retrials.

Some of those matters include Constable Rohan McDowall who is charged with the murder of his Constable Kingsley John on August 7, 2010, at the Biabou police Station.

After successfully appealing their murder conviction last year, Webster Woodley and Sheldon Bain will face the court again for the murder of taxi operator Peter ‘Kazaman’ Joseph.

Police Constable Ericsson Harris will also be tried once more for the double murders of Vonley Llewellyn and Jeanine Gill.

Redemption Sharpes residents Che Bute and Azari Ash are currently awaiting sentencing for the murder of Lloyd ‘Lazo’ Samuel.
