Small appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, January 3, and was denied bail by Chief Magistrate Sonya Young.

Small is accused of chopping Candy Nanton, 20, about her body with a cutlass at Glen on December 28, 2011.

Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche objected to Small’s bail on the grounds that the woman was living in fear following the alleged incident. He also stated there were also threats made against the young woman.

Representing Small, lawyer Ronald Marks told the court there are conditions that can be attached to bail and that the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.

It was also stated that the victim was scheduled to undergo surgery that same day.

Magistrate Young, in response, told Marks that she can’t close her eyes to what is going on in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The matter was adjourned to March 9.
