Lavia appeared before the Serious Offences Court on December 7, charged with possession of a .38 revolver and two rounds of .38 ammunition at Kingstown on on December 3.

He was also charged with assaulting Laura John of Campden Park.

Corporal Black had objected to Lavia’s bail on the grounds that the virtual complainant was fearful of her life and asked for him to be remanded for two weeks so as to facilitate further police investigations.

In response, Lavia’s counsel Patricia Marks told Chief Magistrate Sonya Young that her client is ill and has been in the hospital since Saturday. She also indicated that he suffers from a heart condition and it was not the virtual complainant who made the complaint to the police.

However, the objection to bail was waived and Lavia was ordered to surrender his travel documents and the matter was adjourned to next April. (KW)
