The 50-year-old man who pleaded guilty to possession and importation of four grams of cannabis, told the court that he brought the drug from Trinidad.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young fined the man $250 for possession and $350 for importation of the drug. He was ordered to pay the fines forthwith or spend four months in jail.

The court heard that at about 12:05 p.m. on November 24, LIAT flight 384 landed at the E.T. Joshua airport with the Shakes onboard.

After clearing immigration, an officer noticed Shakes acting in a suspicious manner and requested a search of him and his luggage.

Shakes was escorted to the Male washroom at the airport and during a search, a taped package fell from between his crotch.

Under caution, Shakes said it was one “spliff” he got in Trinidad.

In court, Shakes apologised for his actions and said it was a mistake bringing it to St Vincent.
