Garnez given marching orders by Chief Magistrate Young
A native of Martinique was given his marching orders yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to entering this state illegally.{{more}}
Elijah Garnez appeared before Chief Magistrate Sonya Young and was fined $500 forthwith, or in default, he would spend three months in jail.
Magistrate Young made an order for him to be deported.
The facts in the matter revealed that the man came here by boat on October 6, 2011 and docked at Clare Valley. Two days later, acting on information, members of the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) went to the Keartons Bay, where Garnez was apprehended.
In court, Garnez told the magistrate that he had come here on a Catamaran for conchs. He explained that the boat left after they didnât see him return.
Garnez said he had got lost and was trying to find out the name of the man from whom he came to get the conchs.
Young told Garnez that she did not believe his story.
âYou didnât come here for any conch. We are not known for conchs…maybe in the Grenadines, not so much here,â Young said.(KW)
