Man fined for vandalizing new Georgetown police station
A promise to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the person who vandalized the newly opened Police Station in Georgetown did not go unkept.{{more}}
On Monday, September 12, 42-year-old Randy Harry, a farmer of Park Hill, was charged with damage to property at the Georgetown Magistrateâs Court.
Harry pleaded guilty to throwing a Guinness bottle and smashing a window at the front of the building.
The building, which was officially opened on Tuesday, September 6, cost $3.658 million to construct.
The man, who admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time he committed the offence (Friday September 2, around 8:30pm), was fined $400 to be paid forthwith, or he would spend four months in prison.
At the official opening of the station, Superintendent of Police Brinsley Ballantyne promised that he would do all in his power to ensure that the culprit who broke the window was brought to justice.
In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, Ballantyne credited the vigilance of persons in the community for Harryâs arrest, which took place last Friday, September 9.
Ballantyne thanked the public for its assistance, and echoed the sentiments of Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Commissioner of Police Keith Miller in calling the public to come on board in the policing of their communities.(JJ)
