Damali Francis, 29, of Largo Heights appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday and was not required to enter a plea to the charges.

Francis is accused of impersonating her cousin Roxanne John of Largo Heights, the holder of an account at a commercial bank, to withdraw money on numerous occasions between February and June 2011, totalling over $150,000.

Francis first appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on September 7, and was charged with 15 counts of deception.

It was reported in the local media that Prosecutor Glenford Gregg had objected to her bail, stating that when the money was discovered to be missing, the accused woman fled to Canada. While there, she was intercepted by the International Police Organisation (Interpol).

Gregg submitted that Francis would be flight risk if granted bail.

However, when she appeared in court this week, Prosecutor, Adolphus Delpesche did not object to bail and made an application for all her travel documents to be surrendered and for her to report to the Old Montrose Police Station at least twice per week.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young ordered her to report to the Old Montrose police station twice a week and surrender all travel documents.

The matter was adjourned to January 18, 2012.(KW)
