A new trend seems to be developing at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, in which prisoners are using their own faeces as a means to escape lawful custody.{{more}}

Joe Bobb, a resident of Kingstown, is the second man in the space of two weeks to smear himself with faeces and escape from the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.

On Monday, August 29, Bobb, who appeared at the court on charges of theft and robbery, asked to go the washroom.

A reliable source informed SEARCHLIGHT that while in the washroom, the prisoner requested a piece of tissue paper from an officer, who was standing guard. Upon the officer’s return, it is alleged that that Bobb attempted to throw faeces at the officer, who then closed the door to protect himself, leaving the prisoner inside the washroom.

The prisoner then climbed through a small window and made good on his escape, not before leaving the washroom in a messy state.

The court proceedings then had to be moved upstairs to the Serious Offences Court.

Investigating, SEARCHLIGHT journeyed to the back of the Co-operative League Centre building, which houses the Magistrate’s Court and saw the open window where Bobb is alleged to have made his getaway.

What appeared to be the residue of faeces stains was also seen on the wall below the window where the prisoner escaped.

Up until press time, Bobb had not been apprehended.

Denver Oliver, a 36-year-old resident of Calliaqua was the first man to leave the court in a mess. Literally!

Oliver, who was last week sentenced to 18 months in jail for escaping lawful custody, appeared a week prior, before Magistrate Donald Browne and defecated in full view of everyone in the courtroom.

Oliver then soiled himself with the faeces before defacing the walls and furniture of the court. He then exited the courtroom and fled the scene.
